Stroll Around Heritage Square

A unique historic area in downtown McCook, Heritage Square spans 10 blocks and contains over a century of local history. You can take a self-guided walking tour of the area by grabbing a map from the Museum of the High Plains and Carnegie Museum (more on that below).

Attend the Annual German Heritage Days

The largest annual celebration in McCook, German Heritage Days always takes place during the last weekend of September. The festive weekend includes activities for the whole family, including a craft fair, live entertainment, local grub, and a parade. This is a great way to engage with the McCook community.

Admire Sutton House

The Harvey P. Sutton House, or simply Sutton House, is the only residence in Nebraska designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The six-bedroom abode features Wright’s distinctive Prairie School architectural style. Although it’s currently a private residence and not open to the public, you can drive by to appreciate this architectural gem. It’s located at 602 Norris Avenue.

Play a Round at the Heritage Hills Golf Course

Golfers must take advantage of the Heritage Hills Golf Course, a gorgeous but challenging course. Well maintained and affordable, Heritage Hills is a treat for experienced golfers, who will appreciate the nuances and subtleties of the course. It features rolling hills, lush fairways, and 4,000 feet of concrete cart paths so that golfers don’t have to trek from hole to hole. Plus, it hosts the annual John Mullen Community Hospital Pro-Am, which raises money for the Community Hospital Health Foundation.

Stretch Your Legs at Red Willow Reservoir State Recreation Area

Within the park’s 4,320 acres of land (surrounding a 1,628-acre lake), you’ll find camping facilities, a beach for swimming, concessions, an archery range, and a marina. Grab a Bite at a Local Restaurant
